Melden & Hunt, Inc. was contract by North Alamo Water Supply Corporation to bring sanitary sewer service to the community of San Carlos utilizing 306C Colonia Funding available through United States Department of Agriculture Rural Utility Service. San Carlos is rural a community of approximately 798 people. Substandard housing and plumbing facilities characterize much of the rural subdivision development. North Alamo Water Supply Corporation provides water to the community. However, individual on-site wastewater systems and pit privies were the means by which residents of San Carlos disposed their wastewater. Many resident had overflow and odor problems within their on site septic systems.
Melden & Hunt, Inc. provided total engineering services from planning through construction to bring first time service to the area. The constructed facilities includes a Wastewater Treatment Plant that consists of a primary pond, a secondary pond, a holding pond, recirculation and irrigation pump station, all related piping and valves, all electrical work, instrumentation, site work necessary for a turnkey installation ready for operation. To collect wastewater in the community of San Carlos a conventional gravity collection system was designed and constructed. The collection system consists of over 26,300 linear feet of pipe 78 manholes a three lift stations. Construction cost for the entire project was $1,710,000.
