Melden & Hunt, Inc. was engaged by North Alamo Water Supply Corporation (NAWSC) to provide engineering services for the purpose of demolishing and existing 1.0 MGD plant and constructing a 4.0 MGD Plant on the same site. The work on NAWSC's Water Treatment Plant #4 was challenging in that operations had to be maintained throughout the construction activities. Melden & Hunt, Inc. designed a facility, which fit on the very small available area. The design was extremely cost effective and included total automation and new primary disinfection facilities utilizing chlorine dioxide (ClO2). Given that ClO2 is the only option for disinfection in the Rio Grande Valley due to the disinfection by-products rule of the Safe Drinking Water Act, Melden & Hunt, Inc. has tremendous experience with this method of disinfection.
